Kevin Kirk, M.A., ACSM
Kevin is one of the premier exercise professionals in the Triangle. He has worked the field of health and fitness for 25 years. He holds a masters degree in Human Performance from UNC-CH and bachelor’s degrees in Exercise Science and Psychology. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, and is certified by that organization as a health and fitness instructor. Additionally, he is certified through the American Alliance of Health and Fitness Professionals as a Post-rehab Conditioning Specialist. He has served as fitness director and exercise instructor at various commercial facilities and has supervised fitness and weight management programs for many organizations. He has run the strength training programs for the Orange County Department on Aging at the Chapel Hill Senior Center since 1995. He served on the Durham County Fitness Council from 1996-2001 and was the president of the council when it won the Vanguard Award as outstanding local council in
Kevin has specialized in helping people with traumatic brain injuries develop exercise regimens that fit their abilities. Likewise, he is the referral of choice for older individuals who are dealing with chronic conditions or recovering from procedures like knee and hip replacements. His clients have included heads of cardiology at Duke and UNC, presidents of universities, and world-renowned doctors and business leaders. He founded Functional Fitness in 1997.
A former volleyball player and coach who has won medals at national competitions, Kevin is an avid cyclist and endurance athlete who has run marathons, completed triathlons, and ridden double century rides (200 miles in one day).
Colin Brough, NPTI
As a graduate of the National Personal Training Institute, Colin has a knowledgeable background in exercise physiology, anatomy, and nutrition. He has experience working with a wide range of individuals, including athletes, beginners, seniors, people recovering from injury, people dealing with diabetes, arthritis, obesity, and many other challenging situations.
Colin brings a terrific skill set of training techniques that have been finely tuned by working as an exercise specialist at the YMCA and other health club organizations. He has also run his own in-home personal training company serving the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. When he is not helping people reach their health related goals, he enjoys playing basketball, tennis, mountain biking, and spending time with family and friends.
